Writing
At Cubert Primary School, we believe that writing is a fundamental skill that empowers our students for life. From the early exploration of mark making and phonics in Early Years Foundation Stage to the development of creative and analytical writing in Key Stage 2, our curriculum is designed to nurture confidence and creativity across all areas of the curriculum. We use the Grammarsaurus framework to guide our teaching, ensuring that students not only learn the rules of spelling, punctuation and grammar but also how to express their thoughts and ideas effectively.
Through engaging activities and supportive feedback, we foster a love for writing that will last a lifetime, preparing our students for success in their future .
Reading
We are committed to embracing a love of reading from the earliest stages of learning. In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1, our students engage with RWI (Read Write Inc.) phonics books, which provide a strong foundation in decoding and comprehension skills. As they progress into Key Stage 2, we implement a diverse range of class texts, integrating the VIPERS reading comprehension strategy (Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation, Retrieval, and Sequence) to deepen their understanding and analytical skills.
By following the National Curriculum, we ensure that our reading program not only meets educational standards but also inspires a lifelong passion for literature in our students. We encourage reading for pleasure and all children have access to the school library for exposure to high quality texts that reflects themselves and others.
