Geography - Curriculum Intent

Purpose of Study

At Cubert School, we believe that geography is more than just a subject—it's an adventure! Our aim is to ignite a spark of curiosity in every pupil about the world and its incredible people. Through geography, students will explore diverse places, cultures, resources, and both the natural and human aspects of our planet. As they learn, they'll uncover the wonders of how Earth’s physical and human processes interact, how landscapes form, and how environments change over time. Our geography curriculum helps students understand how the world’s features are shaped, connected, and transformed, setting them on a path of lifelong exploration and discovery.

Aims

Our geography program is designed to make sure that every pupil can:

  • Explore the World: Discovering important places around the globe, both on land and in the sea, and learn about their unique characteristics. This helps students understand how these places connect with the world’s processes.

  • Unravel Geographical Mysteries: Understand how key features of the world are created and how they interact with each other. This helps explain why and how things change over time.

  • Master Geographical Skills:

  • Fieldwork Adventures: Collect, analyse, and share data from exciting fieldwork experiences that deepen their geographical knowledge.

  • Information Exploration: Learn to read and use various types of geographical information, including maps, globes, and aerial photos.

  • Creative Communication: Share their geographical discoveries in different ways, from maps and numbers to detailed writing.

By engaging with geography, our pupils will be ready to explore the world around them with confidence and excitement!
